Reflections of Venice

Night view of the Grand Canal

Reflections from the Grand Canal -

"If anything can rival Venice in its beauty, it must be its reflection at sunset in the Grand Canal." -Peggy Guggenheim

A canal in Venice with gondola and partial shop window.

Liquid Emerald Morning captures a gentle morning in Venice before the crowds arrive. I was drawn by the extraordinary color of the water; not simply green, but shimmering like liquid emerald, So fascinating when we slow down to see the world with fresh eyes.

A view at dusk of the Saint Mark Baisin

Echoes of Our Beginning

Thirty-two years ago this month we stood on this very spot. With excitement mixed with a little anxiety we faced an uncertain future. Here we are now as partners who have only grown more together in love and appreciation for a rich, rich life. Happy anniversary my dearest and best traveling partner. Let’s do 32 more!

Moonlight streaming over St. Mark's Baisin with San Georgio Maggiore in the back

Saint Mark's Basin is more than a stretch of water separating Venice from San Giorgio Maggiore. Under a luminous moon, the shimmering reflections and timeless architecture create a scene that lingers in memory long after you've left.

The Rialto Bridge

The Rialto Bridge

For more than four centuries, the Rialto Bridge has quietly witnessed the endless dance between stone, water, and the dreams of those who cross it.

Extravagance Outlawed

In 1562, Venice passed a sumptuary law requiring gondolas to be painted black and banning most ornate decorations to curb excessive displays of wealth. Today, those sleek black gondolas make the reflections in the canals even more dramatic creating one of the most elegant and iconic images in the world.
